PIMF Audition Requirements For Pre-College Students
Please note that the Philadelphia International Music Festival (PIMF) will this year include SEVEN orchestra levels. Consequently, it is possible to include in our dynamic summer music program students of all ages and skill levels. Students are therefore NOT required to mail with their applications an audition tape or cd. Tapes/cds are required for placement purposes only – and should not be mailed to our office until the registered student receives his or her PIMF confirmation packet, which will include detailed information re: audition tape/cd requirements.
Students must first register for the Philadelphia International Music Festival. Placement audition tapes/cds are required in order to best fulfill each student’s needs at camp.The fastest and easiest way to register is on line at this web site. Please register BEFORE sending in audition tape/cd. Audition tape/cd is for placement purposes only – not for acceptance evaluation. Students may also register via telephone: 856-875-6816. Once your registration form is received by the Philadelphia International Music Festival, you will be sent a full confirmation packet, which will include detailed festival information, sample schedules, information referencing solo performance opportunities and competitions. a PIMF Easy Reference Guide, etc. Within this confirmation packet will be information re: placement audition tape/cd requirements. Please make tape/cd according to outline therein, and mail to our office by date so noted in confirmation packet. Feel free to phone or e-mail should you have any questions about making your placement audition tape/cd. The placement audition tape/cd must include five to ten minutes of current solo repertoire and should be appropriately labeled with student’s name, age, and corresponding repertoire. We recommend (but do not require) that audition tape include two contrasting pieces. Recordings may be accompanied or unaccompanied.

There is no required repertoire for audition tapes. Students should perform their most current, well-prepared piece(s).
Performances may be accompanied or unaccompanied.
Placement auditions determine:
Orchestra placement (appropriate to level).
Orchestra seating.
Chamber Program placement (if applicable).
Master Class participation.
