International Music Festival Concerto Competition Bach
Double Competition
For
Violin:
Violin students will be given a perhaps once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
at the Strings 2008 International Music Festival to compete for an on-stage
duo concerto performance at the Kimmel Center – or other Philadelphia
area venue - with Kimberly Fisher, Principal Second Violinist, Philadelphia
Orchestra, or other member of The Philadelphia Orchestra! To qualify
for this competition, violin students must prepare by memory either
the first, second, or third movement of the Bach Double Violin Concerto,
2nd violin part. One winner will be chosen for each movement. Students
of all ages may compete. There are no age divisions. Rehearsal with
a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra will constitute first round.
Rehearsals may take place as early as June 15. Come prepared!
For
Cello:
Cello students must perform by memory the first movement of the Vivaldi
Concerto in B Flat Major - F.IV, n.2 for Violin, Cello, and Orchestra.
Students of all ages may compete. There are no age divisions. Rehearsal
with a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra will constitute first round.
Rehearsals may take place as early as June 15. Come prepared! Look for
similar opportunities for viola and bass in future festivals!
Students
desirous of participating in the Bach Double or Vivaldi Competition
must fill out the appropriate competition forms mailed with student
confirmation packets. Forms must be returned by April 1. Please note
that we expect all musicians participating in solo performances of any
kind to come adequately prepared – ready to perform skill-appropriate,
polished, performance-ready music.
